To further encourage the pursuit of health R and D activities, the Central Luzon Health Research and Development Consortium (CLHRDC) conducted a Regional Seminar on Basic Research Methods and Technical Writing held on September 12, 2013 at the DOST Regional Office No.3, City of San Fernando, Pampanga. The training aimed to encourage health researchers in Region III to submit quality research proposals for external funding by providing them with the skills in writing different types of research and technical reports with the appropriate protocols and designs. It was attended by participants from member-institutions who are actively involved in health research related activities.

Dr. Godofreda Vergeire-Dalmacion, a Professor from the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology cross appointed to the Department of Clinical Epidemiology, UP College of Medicine was the resource speaker for the said seminar. She is also the current Chair of the Technical Review Board, UP Manila - National Institute of Health and author of numerous selected peer-reviewed publications. She started the session by a research methodology workshop, followed by an interactive discussion on research designs and how to write research papers.

The capability building seminar can hopefully pave the way to tap into research funding offered by the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD). Under the Regional Research Fund (RRF), the said agency is providing up to a maximum of PhP 300,000.00 for a qualified project.  This fund is a tool to encourage new researchers to be actively involved in health research activities without having to compete with more experienced researchers and obtain experience by implementing simple yet relevant health research projects. This funding opportunity also encourages research collaboration among state universities and colleges (SUCs), private higher education institutions and government R&D institutes in the region.

Upcoming trainings of the CBC include topics on: Data Processing and Analysis (October), Isolation and Purification and Characterization of Bioactive Constituents from Herbal Plants (October), Technical Writing (November), and HERDIN NeOn System (December).
