The Central Luzon Health Research and Development Consortium (CLHRDC) had a fruitful participation in the 7th annual celebration of the Philippine National Health Research System Week held on August 7-9, 2013 at Plaza del Norte Hotel and Convention Center in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte. Hosted by the Region 1 Health Research and Development Consortium (R1HRDC), the 3-day celebration focused on the theme: “People at the Center of Health and Health Research”, and was highlighted by fora for health specialists, students and professionals, research presentation competition and poster exhibits.

CLHRDC submitted entries both in the professional and student research categories and were able to bring home distinguished awards and citations.

A group of students from the College of Medicine, Angeles University Foundation led by Bryan G. Tayag won 1st place in the poster exhibit contest – student category for their study entitled: “Determination of the Efficacy of Guyabano (Annona Muricata) Fruit in Lowering Blood Total Cholesterol Levels In Vivo”.

In the professional category, two entries won runner-up honors, namely, “Software-based Detection System of Tropical Infectious Diseases” by Engr. Jenette C. Centeno of Bulacan State University and “Risk Assessment of the Toxicity of Fresh, Air-dried and Extracts of Stems and Leaves of Centrosema pubescens Benth. (Butterfly Pea)” an entry submitted by Tarlac State University led by Ana Paula D. Catacutan.

Dr. Bella G. Panlilio of the CLHRDC Capacity Building Committee, presented the consortium’s strength on researches regarding drug discovery and development during the plenary session on “Generating More Quality Proposals Background: A Research Agenda (NUHRA/RUHRA) and Increasing Research Funds”.

With this annual event, CLHRDC once again proved itself to be a potent force in health-related researches as it continues to reap awards and recognition in its efforts to improve and encourage more collaborative health research projects in Region 3. The Department of Science and Technology III is the lead convenor of CLHRDC.
