On November 13, 2011, Grand Challenges Canada announced new funding opportunities for early-career innovators from low- and lower-middle income countries, the Rising Stars in Global Health program.

Grand Challenges Canada's goal is to tap into bold local solutions to global health problems to solve some of the most persistent health challenges in the developing world through Integrated Innovation.
 
 
The Rising Stars in Global Health program will provide $100,000 CAD for up to 30 successful proof-of-concept proposals. Up to 6 additional scale-up grants of up to $1 million CAD will be awarded to applicants who have demonstrated success at the proff-of-concept stage.
