The Central Luzon Health Research and Development Consortium (CLHRDC) had a fruitful participation in the 10th annual celebration of the Philippine National Health Research System Week held on August 9-11, 2016 at Citystate Asturias Hotel in Puerto Princesa, Palawan. Hosted by the MIMAROPA Health Research and Development Consortium (MHRDC), the 3-day celebration focused on the theme: “Research and Innovation for Health and the Environment”. It was highlighted by parallel and plenary sessions regarding innovation technologies in addressing climate change, science for safe water resources, use of information technology for health, ecosystem conservation, food protection and alternative functional foods, among others.

Aside from the fora, the event was also an avenue to recognize outstanding health researches by both students and professionals through oral and poster research presentation competitions.

CLHRDC submitted entries both in the professional and student research categories and were able to bring home distinguished awards and citations.

For the professional category, Prof. Mona Lisa B. Lacson from Angeles University Foundation bagged 3rd place in the poster exhibit contest for the study entitled: “The Anti-hyperglycemic Properties of the Ethyl Acetate and Hexane Extracts from Kondol Leaves (Benincasa hispida Cogniaux)”. Ms. Mary Angel Javier of Tarlac State University also presented a study entitled: “Bioactive Constituents of Centrosema pubescens Benth. Inhibitory to Culex quinquefasciatus Larvae” for the oral research contest.

With this annual event, CLHRDC once again proved itself to be a potent force in generating health-related researches as it continues to reap awards and recognition in its efforts to improve and encourage more collaborative health research projects in Region 3.
