Disasters bring about a myriad of problems that include hunger and malnutrition. Population groups who are already malnourished even before the emergency are more vulnerable to illness and death. In order to build the capacity of local nutrition clusters to handle nutrition in emergencies, the National Nutrition Council recently conducted the first batch of training of trainers on nutrition in emergencies for members of local nutrition clusters. The training was held at Hotel Veniz in Baguio City last September 8 – 12, 2014 and was attended by representatives of member-agencies of local nutrition clusters from the different regions of the country. During the five-day training, participants were given lectures on how to conduct rapid nutrition assessment during emergencies using different methodologies. The multi-agencies represented in the training, including DOST Region III is committed to support and advocate for the inclusion of nutrition in emergency plans and programs in their respective areas. Participants pose with lecturers and resource persons during the Training of Trainers on Nutrition in Emergencies. |
